Murder House ’74 TR6 (Project Joe)

This car was a find due to my local UPS driver. A women at one of his stops asked if he could find somebody to take it off her hands and he knew from all the parts that he drops off who to ask first.

Contacted her in September of 2021, and had it home in October. Took me 4 weeks of cleaning up her garage, which was more of a hoarders Pompeii. The previous owner started “restoring” it in the mid 1990’s and had it all apart and parts laying around, when he came ill. As I extracted it, I found most of the parts, though a lot were too damaged by animal waste and water. The car turned out to be very solid, must have been from Texas, since it had holes for an A/C unit.

Also found a spare motor, that turned out to be the mystery engine the widow told me he rebuilt but could not get running. As we took it apart as part of our “lunch and learns” at Shadytree, we found out why. They had a GT6 crank in it, but installed new TR6 pistons. These are too short, so the compression ratio was way too low to combust. Which was lucky, since the rebuilder did not even clean the oil pan out of decades of sludge and left out one thrust washer (would have destroyed the engine if it did get used). That leaves me wondering what is in the car. Which has a complete engine already with a brand new set of Spanish made triple Webers.
