2020 Garden Recap

2020 was quite a year but staying home and having no activities meant we had lots of time to focus on the garden. The garden it turned out after building it was really easy as gardens are the first year. Not a lot of weeding because the beds were new (I am in for a change this year I can already tell).

Some pictures from the garden at the end of the summer.

This was a normal daily harvest – cucumbers and tomatoes
Time to make some sauce! This was some harvesting before frost hit – September 15
Apple trees last year were great – we made lots of apple sauce and the girls enjoyed eating the fresh apples – September 20
October 1 harvest – getting some carrots out and more tomatoes – they just kept coming!
Lots of herbs this year – we had rosemary, thyme, oregano (here) and basil. Lots of drying and I’ve been happily using them through the winter. The ground oregano and thyme definitely survived the winter and is springing up again already
this little guy got caught in our net on the garden – had to free him. Next year we’ll keep the net away from the ground
At the end of the season the girls and I added some beds to the outside of the garden. We’ll see if we can grow anything here without deer/bunnies/groundhogs eating them.
We moved the herbs to the outside as they should be safe
October 5 – a view of our garden as things were dying off from frost (morning glories gone
The beds extend all the way around the back. It will be a challenge keeping grass out this year but I have some mint to for this back area and I started putting garlic back here too
Tomatoes in October and carrots – just before final harvest!
Lots of roasted tomato sauce – delish!
Oct 31 – final carrot harvest
Beautiful and Tasty!

A very successful first year gardening and now planning and starting up the garden this year already. I’ll do a separate update for that!
