Planters are not my strength so I am always pleasantly surprised if some come out well. Oh, I love annuals, and I have a few favorites I get each spring, maybe even deserving its own post… It’s the design of the planter itself that intimidates me.
Part of it is due to the selections at the nursery. If I get there and there are so many beautiful choices that it is almost overwhelming, I may or may not put them together well in a striking design. It is just as difficult when the selection is too picked over. I’ve spent way too long pondering how to put together mismatched leftovers without the necessary plants that would balance them.
I lucked out this year! Blue salvia inspired me. I saw some red nemesia next to some white diascia and decided to go with a red, white, and blue theme for the Memorial Day party. I added red dianthus and blue lobelia.
Of course, my luck didn’t hold out- before I was finished, the bloom had snapped off one of the salvias. Thank goodness its a plant and not pottery : )
I intend to put the planters in the big garden near the picnic area next door. My husband wants to build a garage there this summer so most of my work will be taking things out- I don’t intend to waste time planting over there.
